The Cornell School District believes that student attendance is vital for their academic success. Research has shown there is a direct connection between student attendance and school achievement and student success. Cornell strives to ensure that all students are in attendance each day and that families and students understand the importance of regular school attendance. Our school policies and associated guidelines are intended to promote school attendance and to facilitate the academic, social, emotional and physical development of our students. The Cornell School District enforces the Compulsory School Attendance Law and it is reflective in our school handbooks. The Cornell School District does realize that there are times when it is necessary for a student to be absent from school. Those reasons can include illness, death in the family, health care, religious holidays, etc. If your child is going to be absent please follow the following procedures:
- Please call the Cornell School District at 412-264-5010 and select Prompt 3 to report your child off from school.
- When you child returns please include any appropriate medical excuses/documentation so the attendance day can be properly marked.
- Parents can also contact the school offices directly to report their child's absence.
The Cornell School District strives to work with families in a partnership approach to address any and all issues, including school attendance. Attendance is key to student success and through working together in a partnership approach we can ensure that our children are on the right path to success.
